As per the Hindu mythology and the Hindu scriptures, there are 4 holy centers which are Gangotri, Yamunotri, Badrinath and Kedarnath. They are collectively known as the Char Dham. Yamunotri is the source of River Yamuna which is located at an altitude of over 3293m above sea level in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. It is situated in close proximity with the Indo-China border. You will have to walk 6km from Hanuman Chatti and then walk 4km from Janki Chatti to reach Yamunotri. Next, we have Gangotri pilgrimage which is located at a height of 3,048mts above sea level again in the Uttarkashi district of state Uttarakhand. It is located at the banks of the river Bhagirathi. There is a natural rock which is submerged in the river and can be seen when winters are on their way. This is because in winters the water level decreases. This rock is Shivling, the Hindu god.
Kedarnath is the third pilgrimage. This is the third holy place of Uttarakhand which is situated at the height of 3584m above sea level close to the Mandakini River. The Kedarnath temple is situated amidst the beautiful as well as majestic snow-capped Himalayan ranges. It is open from the end of April month till the starting of the November. It is also one amongst the 12 Jyotirlingas of Kedar or Lord Shiva. Badrinath is the fourth and most imperative Dham of the Char Dham Yatra Uttarakhand. This town is located at an altitude of 3,133mts above sea level. It is situated on the left bank of the river Alakananda. The Badrinath temple is devoted to Lord Vishnu, 15 idols are present in this temple in black stone.
