Tenerife offers a cheaper alternative to some of the diving experiences available off the coast of Sharm el Sheikh, in the red sea. Awe-inspiring brightly coloured marine plant life and fish await any diver intrepid enough to plumb the depths of the coastline although there is something to see for divers of all levels. Here's a snapshot of some of the best diving spots to be found throughout Tenerife for divers of all levels.

Abades Playa
Depth: 0-9m
Experience Required: None
This beautiful little beach is easily accessible to divers of all levels and the waters are home to gorgeous green turtles as well as sea horses, sea hares, octopus and other colourful marine life. A PADI school nearby will train up the uninitiated.

Old Man's Cove
Depth: 0-20m
Experience Required: Some experience required.
With a rocky bottom with sudden drops, divers will need diving boots for this experience. The rewards are rich though, with small caves accessible underwater, electric rays, angelsharks, barracudas and other fish to be found.

Montana Amarilla
Depth: 0-22m
Experience Required: Intermediate
This spot isn't easy to reach, as the only way down the steep coast to it is by ladder, but the experience one you hit the water is worth it. Bizarre rock formations surround you and brightly coloured sea sponges jut out of them at all angles. There's not much of a current here, but there can be surges, so if you don't have a fair amount of experience this spot is not recommended.

Abona Wreck
Depth: 15-25m
Experience Required: Very experienced only
Although this dive location is an amazing sight to behold, only experienced divers should attempt it due to the difficult entry and very strong currents around the site. Once down in the water there's many strange plant life to see as well as a number of small ship wrecks that have been collecting barnacles and algae over the years. Barracudas also haunt the wrecks.

Black Cove
Depth: 0-20m
Experience Required: Beginner, but with some experience
The dive into this spot is simple enough if the water is calm and the strange rock formations down there form interesting pools of light in the dark water. There are plenty of colourful marine life and sea sponges to behold – great for marine photography!
